Just as with a building project, the process of painting the exterior of a house starts with planning. First, get an idea of what you need. The preparation stage determines what the final result will be. This is the most important stage. Ask any exterior painting contractor, and they will tell you that the prep work is the most important. Painting the exterior of a house without adequate prep work will make all your efforts futile.
Fortunately, we are sharing a few tips on how to prepare your house before laying the coat.
Step 1: Wash the Wall
A manicurist will not fill and paint your hands without first washing them thoroughly. Liken this painting project to that of a manicurist. Get a high-pressure machine to use in blasting off the entire building to create a clean slate. The high-pressure wash will remove all dust and stains from the wall.
Step 2: Remove Loose Paint Particles
After washing, leave the walls to dry. Once it dries, you will find loose paint particles hanging off the surface. Using your paint scrapers, remove the loose paint particles to achieve an even surface.
Step 3: Seal Cracks
Some walls have cracks and gaps, depending on age. Your house contracts and expands as the weather changes, resulting in cracks and gaps in the wall. So don’t be shocked to see cracks on your wall surface. Close up these cracks and gaps using a sealant. Remember to use high-quality sealant. Luckily, you can find quality sealant from your local hardware store.
Step 4: Sand and Prime the Wall Surface
This is the last step before coating your wall surface with your preferred paint color. Sanding keeps the wall free from small paint particles and ensures a well-leveled surface. Priming, on the other hand, removes rough patches on the wall, making it smoother for the paint job proper.
Step 5: Paint
After completing all the steps above, then you can start coating the walls with your preferred paint. If there’s an error in the preparatory stage, the exterior paint job might look shabby. To prevent this, learn to perfect the preparatory stage.
