Types of Attic Insulation

March 31, 2022 by Martin Leave a Comment

Attics are often forgotten about when it comes to home improvement projects. Insulating them may be just as crucial as other remodeling jobs that come before it. One of the most critical aspects of insulation is its ability to stop sound from transferring. Insulation makes it difficult for heat and noise to filter through your property. If you live in an older house with a wooden floor or one with hardwood floors on top, this can be crucial for getting a good night’s sleep. Here are some great options for types of attic insulation.

Fiberglass Insulation

Fiberglass insulation is a highly effective insulation substance. It can stay effective for decades as a barrier against heat and noise. It also adds structural reinforcement to your attic space, fire resistance, and water resistance. This keeps the roof of your house cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.

Foam Insulation

Foam insulation is the best option for attic insulation when you do not want to add more thickness to your roof. More so if you are still concerned about sound and heat transfer. It is also a durable material. Foam insulation will retain effectiveness inside your attic space over time. It also provides other benefits, like giving insulation and structural support.

Cellulose Insulation

Cellulose is a common insulation material. You can purchase it in fiberglass, wool, or recycled cotton varieties. Cellulose insulation works like foam to provide insulation. However, it has a more textured and porous surface. The surface helps to keep air flowing through your attic space and away from the walls. Cellulose insulation typically comes on rolls rather than sheets as foam does. Therefore, you will need to cut it down to size.

Insulating your attic is one of the best things you can do for your home and yourself. To protect your attic from both noise and heat, look for components made from materials that work well together. This will give you the best of both worlds when it comes to your insulation.
